Standard Weather Seals
Overview
Standard Weather Seals from Barron Equipment provide energy efficiency as well as sealing options in either brush or rubber form factors. These dock seals and dock door seals are made for applications with high amounts of lateral friction and provide a tight seal for dock levelers and dock openings.
All five products in this category are manufactured by Action Industries and are designed to fit standard #4 channel retainers — making them compatible with a wide range of dock door openings, side seal applications, and dock leveler seal kits. Action Industries carries several sizes and forms of brush seals including Flex Brush, Stick Brush, Weatherblock brush, and Zebra brush. Brushes come in Slim-Line, Standard, and Large sizes, and these various styles can be found and utilized on side seals, dock leveler seal kits, passage sweeps, and more. Flex Brush flexible brushes are proudly manufactured in the USA.
Standard weather seals are the most widely used dock door sealing solution for facilities that experience regular trailer and door contact. They are a cost-effective, durable alternative to foam pad seals for locations where lateral movement between the door and the seal is frequent.
Types of Standard Weather Seals
Benefits of Standard Weather Seals
Loading dock seals from Barron Equipment are energy efficient and eliminate outside elements from permeating your loading dock and causing damage. These door seals assist with energy efficiency in climate controlled and cold storage facilities, as well as dock leveler seal kits, specific to protecting your loading dock leveler.
Proper sealing at dock openings delivers measurable benefits across all facility types:
- Energy Cost Reduction. A well-sealed dock opening reduces air exchange between the interior and exterior of a facility. For temperature-controlled environments — cold storage, food processing, or climate-managed distribution centers — this translates directly to lower heating and cooling costs throughout the year.
- Pest and Contamination Control. Standard brush seals work well for entrances that need to keep debris, dust, and pests out, such as food processing plants. The dense polypropylene bristles create a barrier against airborne particulates, insects, and rodents without impeding the movement of the door
- High Lateral Friction Performance. Standard weather seals are specifically designed to hold up in applications where the seal experiences repeated side-to-side contact. Unlike rigid foam pad seals, brush and rubber seals flex with movement, resisting premature wear in high-cycle dock environments.
- Versatile Application. Standard seals can be installed on dock door side openings, dock leveler perimeters, passage door sweeps, and overhead door edges — making them a multi-use sealing solution across a single facility.
Choosing the Right Standard Weather Seal
Selecting the correct standard weather seal depends on three factors: the application location, the expected level of lateral movement, and the performance requirement.
For most dock door side-sealing and dock leveler applications where lateral friction is moderate, the Standard Brush Seal or Flex Brush provides reliable performance at an accessible price. If the application requires sealing around an overhead or rolling steel door with larger gaps, the Flex Brush oversized option — available in 3″, 4″, and 6″ bristle lengths — offers the best coverage.
For facilities requiring stricter environmental control — food processing, refrigerated distribution, or pharmaceutical storage — the Weatherblock Weatherseal provides the added vinyl insert barrier that standard brush seals alone cannot achieve. If you are unsure which product fits your specific door or leveler, Barron Equipment’s product specialists are available to assist.
