Threshold Door Seals
Benefits of a Threshold Door Seal
Door thresholds are a great way to permanently weatherproof many flat surfaces and door sweeps. Barron Equipment carries a variety of sizes and styles to fit many different applications.
Unlike door bottom seals that mount to the door itself, threshold seals mount permanently to the floor at the point where the door closes — creating a raised barrier that the door compresses against when shut. This floor-level barrier is one of the most effective ways to eliminate gaps between the door and the ground surface, particularly in environments where the floor may be uneven, worn, or subject to moisture infiltration. A properly installed threshold seal keeps out water infiltration, wind-driven rain, snow, dust, dirt, leaves, insects, rodents, and other pests — while simultaneously reducing energy loss from gaps in the door’s closed position.
Barron offers two main types of threshold seals: heavy-duty solid aluminum thresholds for industrial environments and Storm Shield PVC and EPDM thresholds for residential and light commercial garage door applications. Both options deliver a permanent, reliable seal at floor level — the right choice depends on the door type, traffic load, and environment the threshold will face.
Solid Aluminum Thresholds
For industrial overhead and entry door applications where maximum strength and durability are required, these aluminum thresholds stand 1/2″ tall and are built with 6061-T6 solid aluminum to withstand extreme weight and excessive traffic conditions. The two-way fastening and seal system won’t shift, buckle, or leak, while the top V-groove design provides skid-proof protection and improved tire traction on loading docks and incline ramps. The 1/2″ diameter wire access port makes it easy for sensor and security installations, and the kit comes complete with pre-drilled countersink holes, 3/8″ anchors, and sealant. Aluminum thresholds come in either 4-inch or 6-inch widths and 8, 10, 12, or 16-foot lengths, and are designed to stand up to the wear and tear of rough industrial environments.
Storm Shield Thresholds
Storm Shield by Action Industries is an American-made garage door bottom threshold made from PVC with easy installation in mind. Once properly installed on the garage floor, the seal prevents moisture, wind-driven rainwater, snow, dust, dirt, and leaves from entering under a garage door, and keeps out insects, rodents, and snakes. Storm Shield is chemical-resistant — withstanding oil, gas, antifreeze, and other garage-based chemicals — and won’t crack, warp, or shatter in harsh weather or temperatures. It meets flame resistance requirements for CPAI-84 standards and is backed by a two-year residential warranty. The Storm Shield 2 is the peel-and-stick EPDM version, rated from -40°F to 150°F, and pairs with any door bottom weather seal to create a nearly impenetrable floor-level barrier. A variety of length options are available, including bulk 100-foot rolls.
