Overview
The 254S Structural uses 2-1/2-inch diameter rollers with 14 gauge steel tubing in a true structural steel channel frame. Where the standard 254S uses a formed 10-gauge channel, this structural version uses a 4-inch at 5.4 lbs structural steel painted channel that provides significantly greater rigidity and resistance to deflection under load.
The structural frame nearly triples the section-level capacity compared to the standard formed frame version — from 3,200 lbs to 8,000 lbs at 5-foot support centers — while sharing the same 290 lb per-roller capacity. This makes the structural 254S the right choice for permanent conveyor installations that handle moderate loads but require a frame that will not flex or deflect over years of continuous use.
Specifications
- Roller diameter: 2.5 inches
- Roller gauge: 14 ga. steel with smooth swaged ends
- Frame: 4 in. at 5.4 lbs structural steel painted channel
- Roller capacity: 290 lbs per roller
- Axle: 7/16-inch hex shaft, spring loaded
- Bearings: Integral plain ball bearings, zinc plated, grease packed
- Couplings: Butt type
Straight Sections
Straight structural 254S sections are available in multiple lengths and widths. The structural steel channel frame eliminates the flex that formed channel frames can exhibit under heavy or concentrated loads, making this the preferred choice for permanent installations and long unsupported spans.
Curve Sections
The structural 254SC curve companion is available in 45° and 90° configurations. Narrower curves use a single roller design, while wider sections use a double roller design for consistent product support through the turn.
Load Capacity
Each 14-gauge roller is rated at 290 pounds. The structural steel channel frame delivers dramatically higher section-level capacity than standard formed channel conveyors.
- Supports on 10-foot centers: 3,750 lbs maximum distributed live load per 10-foot section
- Supports on 5-foot centers: 8,000 lbs maximum distributed live load
Standard vs. Structural Frame
Barron Equipment carries both the standard and structural versions of the Roach 254S. The standard 254S uses a formed 10-gauge steel channel rated at 1,300 lbs per section at 10-foot centers (3,200 lbs at 5-foot centers) with a 260 lb per-roller capacity. The structural version uses a 4-inch at 5.4 lbs structural steel channel rated at 3,750 lbs at 10-foot centers (8,000 lbs at 5-foot centers) with a 290 lb per-roller capacity.
Choose the structural version for permanent installations, longer unsupported conveyor spans, or applications where multiple heavy items may be on the conveyor section simultaneously.
Applications
The structural 254S is designed for operations that need a permanently rigid conveyor for moderate-weight loads over extended lengths. Typical uses include heavy carton and container transfer lanes in manufacturing, drum and keg handling where the wider roller and rigid frame improve tracking, permanent conveyor runs in distribution centers, mixed-weight freight staging at loading docks, and multi-section conveyor layouts where frame alignment must remain consistent over years of operation.
Selection Assistance
The structural 254S is the right choice when you need structural frame rigidity but your per-roller loads remain under 290 pounds. For heavier loads, step up to the 251S Structural (11 ga., 540 lbs/roller) with the same structural frame. For lighter loads that do not require structural construction, the standard 254S or the LEWCO 2514 offer more economical alternatives.
