Overview
Transferring flat steel between conveyor sections in a manufacturing line requires careful handling. Standard belt conveyors can scratch or mark the surface. Roller conveyors may not provide the controlled lateral movement needed to shift material off a line shaft system. This 7-strand belt transfer solves both problems by using narrow, independently spaced belt strands with a nitrile roughtop surface that grips the steel securely during the transfer without damaging the finish.
Built by Roach Conveyors, this custom transfer was engineered for a specific steel manufacturing application — but the multi-strand belt transfer concept applies to any operation that needs to move flat, finished, or coated materials laterally off a production conveyor without surface damage.
Features and Benefits
Every element of this transfer is designed around protecting flat steel during a lateral move from one conveyor section to the next.
- Seven independently spaced belt strands accommodate flat steel in multiple lengths up to 32 feet
- 2-inch wide nitrile roughtop belting on each strand prevents scratching and provides reliable grip during transfer
- UHMW product stops at the discharge end position the material precisely and prevent overtravel
- Variable strand spacing accommodates different product lengths within the same transfer section
- Handles flat steel up to 150 lbs per piece
- Transfers material off a line shaft conveyor to the next stage of the manufacturing process
Applications
Multi-strand belt transfers are used in manufacturing environments where flat, wide, or long products need to move laterally between conveyor sections without surface damage. This 7-strand configuration was designed for flat steel sheet handling, but the same transfer approach applies to aluminum sheet, stainless steel, painted panels, laminated products, glass, and other materials where surface protection during transfer is critical.
Custom Conveyor Engineering
This transfer is an example of the custom conveyor engineering Barron Equipment provides through our partnership with Roach Conveyors. Every multi-strand belt transfer is configured to the specific product dimensions, weight, conveyor layout, and surface-protection requirements of the application. Strand count, spacing, belt type, transfer width, and product-stop materials are all selected based on what you need to move and how you need to move it. Contact Barron Equipment with your product specifications and layout requirements to discuss a custom transfer solution.
