KWIXTROK™ Horizontal Motion Conveyor – Gentle Bulk Material Transport

The KWIXTROK™ by General Kinematics uses a smooth forward horizontal stroke followed by a rapid return to move bulk material through differential friction. Unlike conventional vibrating conveyors that bounce material vertically, the KWIXTROK advances products with minimal impact — making it the right choice for fragile, dusty, or flow-sensitive materials. Its simple, uncluttered construction and flexible path configurations support foundry, chemical, food processing, and scrap handling environments.

Overview

Conventional vibrating conveyors move material by tossing it upward and forward in small, repeated cycles. That vertical bouncing works well for heavy, durable materials, but it creates problems with fragile products, dusty materials, and applications where controlled flow matters more than raw throughput. The KWIXTROK™ takes a different approach.

Instead of bouncing, the KWIXTROK uses differential friction. The conveyor pan moves forward in a smooth, controlled stroke — carrying the material with it. Then the pan snaps back quickly, resetting beneath the load while the material stays in place. The result is steady, gentle, horizontal material movement without the vertical impact, dust generation, and product damage associated with traditional vibratory systems.

How Differential Friction Works

The KWIXTROK’s operating principle relies on the difference in friction between the forward and return strokes. During the slow forward stroke, static friction keeps the material locked to the pan surface, and both move together. During the rapid return stroke, the pan accelerates faster than the material can follow, and the material stays in position while the pan resets. Each cycle advances the material one increment forward. Over continuous operation, this produces a smooth, linear flow without vertical displacement.

Features and Benefits

The KWIXTROK’s design eliminates the noisy gear systems and complex drive assemblies found in traditional vibratory conveyors. The result is a quieter, lower-maintenance conveying system with fewer moving parts and greater path flexibility.

  • Gentle horizontal motion moves material without bouncing, vertical impact, or dust generation
  • Drive can be located anywhere along the trough length for maximum installation flexibility
  • Simple drive design eliminates noisy gears and reduces maintenance costs
  • Centrally located lubrication system requires only occasional service
  • Configurable as straight, oval, circular, rectangular, S-curve, or any combination of paths
  • Uncluttered construction allows easy access for cleaning and inspection
  • Handles a wide range of bulk materials including fragile, dusty, wet, and flow-sensitive products

Applications

The KWIXTROK is designed for operations where material integrity, dust control, or gentle handling take priority over aggressive vibratory throughput. Common applications span multiple industries.

Foundry and Metalcasting — Moving foundry sand, castings, and process byproducts where gentle handling reduces sand breakdown and dust.

Chemical Processing — Conveying granular chemicals, powders, and pellets where vertical bouncing would create airborne dust or degrade particle size.

Food Processing — Transporting snacks, cereals, confectionery, baked goods, and other fragile food products where product breakage must be minimized.

Scrap and Recycling — Moving loose or mixed scrap where a flexible conveyor path is needed and traditional vibratory systems create excessive noise or dust.

Bulk Material Handling — General-purpose conveying of granules, pellets, fines, and other loose materials in manufacturing, processing, and packaging environments.

Path Configuration

One of the KWIXTROK’s strongest advantages over traditional vibrating conveyors is path flexibility. The system can be configured as a straight run, oval loop, full circle, rectangle, S-curve, or any combination of these layouts. This allows the conveyor path to wrap around existing equipment, serve multiple discharge points, or follow the natural flow of a processing line — without the structural limitations of linear vibratory systems that only run in a straight line.

FAQs

What is a horizontal motion conveyor?

A horizontal motion conveyor moves bulk material forward through differential friction — a smooth forward stroke carries the material, and a rapid return resets the conveyor pan. This produces gentle, linear movement without the vertical bouncing of a conventional vibrating conveyor.

How is the KWIXTROK different from a vibrating conveyor?

A vibrating conveyor tosses material upward and forward in repeated cycles. The KWIXTROK moves material horizontally with no vertical displacement. This reduces product damage, dust generation, noise, and the structural vibration transmitted to the facility.

What materials can the KWIXTROK handle?

Foundry sand, granular chemicals, powders, pellets, food products (snacks, cereals, baked goods), scrap, and other loose, fragile, dusty, or flow-sensitive bulk materials. The specific configuration depends on the material characteristics, throughput, and path layout.

Can the KWIXTROK follow a curved path?

Yes. The KWIXTROK can be configured as straight, oval, circular, rectangular, S-curve, or any combination. This path flexibility is a key advantage over linear vibrating conveyors that are limited to straight runs.

What information is needed for a KWIXTROK quote?

Provide the material type, particle size, bulk density, throughput, operating temperature, moisture or stickiness, required conveyor path and length, and available installation space. Barron Equipment will work with General Kinematics to evaluate the right KWIXTROK configuration for your application.
