Surface Mount Loading Dock Lift

Surface Mount Loading Dock Lifts – SM Series

Overview

The surface-mounted loading dock lift operates as a combination lift and leveler as it can go from truck or dock height on one end (44.5"–58" standard) to any height (0–58") on the other end. One end has an automatic ramp — the "bridge" — and the other end has a hydraulic ramp with additional truck bumpers. It can be used as your loading dock or placed up to a dock and is designed to handle truck impacts on both ends.

This dual-end design makes the dock lifts the most versatile fixed unit in the Speed-Lift line. Unlike a standard surface-mount dock lift that transitions loads between one fixed truck height and the ground, the CrossDock serves two distinct height ranges simultaneously — making it a purpose-built solution for cross-docking operations, facilities with non-standard vehicle heights, and operations that need both a lift and a leveler in a single compact footprint.

The CrossDock is surface-mounted and self-contained. All mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems are within the frame, so no separate control unit is required. Integrated truck impact protection features robust construction and padded bumpers — no bollards required. The Automatic Folding Ramp and adjustable bridge provide built-in safety with no safety bars, chains, or flip-over ramps. There are no end-load or side-load limitations — both ends carry a full-load rating across the entire platform.

Features and Benefits

The Speed-Lift loading dock uses a cantilever hydraulic lift with variable speed control, delivering smooth and consistent movement during ascent and descent. Both mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems are self-contained within the frame — no separate control unit is required. The unit includes integrated truck impact protection on both ends, with robust construction and padded bumpers that require no bollards, and does not need pits, drains, bollards, or building permits. Integrated wheels add maneuverability if the unit ever needs to be relocated after installation. The Automatic Folding Ramp on the truck-side bridge and the hydraulic ramp on the dock-side end are both built into the unit, with no chains or manual-lift components needed at either end. The unit carries a full-load rating across the entire platform with no end-load or side-load reduction on either end, and the industry-leading warranty includes 15-Year Structural, 5-Year Parts, and 2-Year Labor coverage. All units conform to ANSI MH29.1 specifications and include UL approved electrical control boxes. Non-skid diamond plate covers the platform, ramp, and bridge. The dock lift is designed to withstand severe weather conditions and operate for 25 or more years with routine maintenance.

Applications

This lift is designed for facilities where loading operations involve variable vehicle heights, multi-direction movement, or active cross-docking — situations where a standard single-end dock lift cannot fully meet the operational need.

The defining advantage of this unit is its independent height control on each end. One end adjusts to standard truck or dock height (44.5"–58"), while the other end adjusts to any height from ground level to 58" — giving operations the flexibility to receive from a truck on one side and dispatch to a dock, a raised platform, or ground level on the other, all in a single unit.

  • Cross-docking operations — transfer goods directly between an inbound truck and outbound dock opening without intermediate staging, using the two independently adjustable ends of the lift
  • Facilities with mixed vehicle types — handle standard-height OTR trucks on one end while accommodating short-bed or non-standard vehicles on the other end using the variable height hydraulic ramp
  • Existing dock supplementation — place the CrossDock adjacent to an existing dock to add a second loading point with full lift and level capability, without additional construction
  • Manufacturing and distribution — move products between floor-level operations and dock-height loading with a single unit that handles both the lift function and the leveling transition
  • Retrofit locations — the Speed-Lift anchors to flat concrete with no pits, permits, excavation, drains, or bollards required, making the CrossDock adaptable to virtually any facility layout where a traditional dock or dock leveler is impractical

Selection Assistance

The dock lift and leveler combination is the right choice when a facility needs more than a standard dock lift. If your operation involves a single truck height moving to a single ground level, the MyDock Speed-Lift in the same 6,000-8,000 lb capacity range may be the simpler, more cost-effective fit. The CrossDock is specifically suited for operations that require height flexibility on both ends — whether that means cross-docking, variable vehicle access, or combined lift-and-leveler functionality in one unit. We will help determine whether the product configuration is the right fit for your operation.

FAQs

What is the weight capacity of the SM Series Dock Lift?

The SM Series is available in 6,000 lb and 8,000 lb capacities. Both models carry a full-load rating across the entire platform, with no end-load or side-load reduction on either end.

Does the SM Series require a pit or building permit?

No. The loading dock lift does not require pits, drains, bollards, or building permits. It is surface-mounted and needs only a solid surface and a power connection to operate.

How fast does the SM Series Speed-Lift travel?

This product travels at 33 FPM, moving loads from truck height to ground in approximately 8 seconds.

What height range does each end of the SM Series cover?

The truck-side end (bridge) adjusts from 44.5" to 58" — standard dock and truck height. The dock-side end (hydraulic ramp) adjusts from 0" to 58", accommodating any height in that range.

What platform sizes are available?

Ten standard platform sizes are available, ranging from 5' × 7' to 8' × 10'. Custom sizes, capacities, and travel configurations are also available.
