Overview

The 512HD delivers industrial-grade lifting capacity with a critical advantage over fixed-height heavy-duty gantries: the beam height and span are adjustable. Designed for production, installation, and maintenance service where portability is required, with no foundation needed, the 512HD gives heavy-lift operations the height flexibility to adapt to different equipment, load profiles, and workspace configurations.

Available in 2 ton (4,000 lbs), 3 ton (6,000 lbs), and 5 ton (10,000 lbs) configurations for direct ecommerce purchase, the 512HD is the heavy-duty tier in Barron Equipment's adjustable gantry crane lineup.

Need a lighter adjustable crane? See the HSI 512 (1/2 ton and 1 ton). For fixed-height heavy-duty cranes, see the HSI 511HD.

Adjustable Height at Heavy-Duty Capacity

At 2 ton and above, the adjustable height capability becomes especially valuable in industrial settings where equipment heights vary significantly — from floor-level machine beds to elevated work platforms. Span lengths are available up to 25+ feet and heights up to 25+ feet, and both height and span are adjustable.

At these load levels, forged steel heavy-duty swivel casters are used, featuring roller bearings for ease of movement and grease fittings for ease of maintenance.

Swivel and wheel locks are strongly recommended at this weight range for stability during lifts. Motorization is available and is recommended for 3 ton and 5 ton configurations where manually repositioning a loaded crane introduces ergonomic risk.

Capacities, Height & Span Options

Capacity Pounds
2 ton 4,000 lbs
3 ton 6,000 lbs
5 ton 10,000 lbs

Span lengths up to 25+ feet and heights up to 25+ feet are available.

Contact Barron Equipment for configurations outside standard ranges or for capacities above 10,000 lbs.

Available accessories include:

  • Tight Wire Kit (Festooning / "Tagline")
  • Swivel Locks and Wheel Locks
  • Rigid or 'V' Groove Casters
  • Hoist & Trolley Packages (electric chain or wire rope, matched to capacity)
  • Motorization for powered floor movement

Heavy Industrial Applications

The 512HD is designed for heavy-lift environments that also require adaptable height clearance. Common applications include:

  • Heavy manufacturing — Position and lift large fabricated components to varying heights across production cells
  • Automotive and powertrain — Service and remove heavy assemblies on equipment with different bed heights
  • Equipment installation and rigging — Set machinery at varying heights during facility build-out or reconfiguration
  • Maintenance and overhaul — Remove and reinstall motors, compressors, and industrial equipment of different sizes
  • Multi-shift facilities — A single adjustable-height crane covers multiple operations and shift configuration

FAQs

What capacities are available in the HSI 512HD?

The 512HD Series is available in three configurations: 2 ton (4,000 lbs), 3 ton (6,000 lbs), and 5 ton (10,000 lbs), all available for direct ecommerce purchase at Barron Equipment. For lighter adjustable-height cranes, see the HSI 512 (up to 2,000 lbs). For heavier capacities above 10,000 lbs, contact Barron Equipment for a custom configuration quote.

What is the difference between the 512HD and the 511HD?

Both are heavy-duty portable steel gantry cranes that require no foundation. The Model 511 is a fixed height gantry crane, while the Model 512 is an adjustable height gantry crane. 1The 511HD has a set beam height once assembled; the 512HD allows the operator to raise or lower the beam and adjust the span to match different job requirements. The 512HD is the right choice when load heights vary across different equipment or operations.

Does the 512HD require a foundation?

No. The 512HD requires no foundation. It is a self-supporting portable gantry crane on casters that can be positioned on any flat, stable surface and repositioned as your operations require.

How high and wide can the 512HD be configured?

Span lengths are available up to 25+ feet and heights up to 25+ feet. Contact Barron Equipment to discuss custom configurations outside standard span and height ranges for your specific facility or application.

Is motorization available on the 512HD?

Yes. Motorization is available as an option. At 3 ton and 5 ton capacities, motorized floor movement is strongly recommended. Manually repositioning a heavy-duty loaded gantry introduces ergonomic risk and reduces throughput. Powered movement protects operators and supports efficient workflow in high-cycle environments.

What casters are used on the 512HD at heavier capacities?

At heavier capacity ratings, the gantry is equipped with forged steel heavy-duty swivel casters, featuring roller bearings for ease of movement and grease fittings for ease of maintenance. 'V' Groove and flanged wheels are also available upon request for use on rail tracks or other guided surfaces.

What is the difference between the 512HD and the 512?

Both the 512 and 512HD are adjustable height, portable steel gantry cranes that require no foundation. The difference is capacity: the 512 is available in 1/2 ton and 1 ton configurations (up to 2,000 lbs); the 512HD covers 2 ton, 3 ton, and 5 ton (up to 10,000 lbs). The 512HD also uses forged steel casters at heavier weight ratings and benefits strongly from motorized movement at 3 ton and above.

Safety Information

The following safety information is provided by Handling Systems International, Inc. (HSI). Please read all warnings before installing or operating this equipment.
  • Inspect entire system annually or more frequently as defined by OSHA 1910.179. Inspection must be performed by a qualified person. Failure to do so may cause serious injury or death.
  • This equipment, used as a crane, is not in any way designed for lifting, supporting, or transporting humans. Failure to follow specified load limitations can result in serious bodily injury or death.
  • The rated load of the hoist as marked on the hoist must not exceed the rated capacity of the jib as labeled on the boom. Do not install a hoist with a capacity greater than that of the jib.
  • It is solely the customer’s responsibility to provide suitable mounting supports for the jib crane. HSI recommends that the customer consult a qualified professional architect or engineer in your local area to determine the adequacy of the building support. There should be no deviation from the recommended foundation size or installation recommendations without first consulting a qualified professional. Failure to check this item can result in serious bodily injury or death.
  • Do not impact end stops at speed. Only impact end stops with caution.
  • Never use end stops for repetitive boom impacts.
  • To prevent trolley from running off of the boom, do not operate crane without end stop bolt firmly secured in place on the end of the boom.
  • Do not operate hoist or crane if cotter pins are not in place and properly bent over on both sides of hoist trolley. Check regularly that the cotter pins are in place and securing the hoist on the hoist trolley.
  • Inspect jib for missing or broken parts before operating.
  • Do not adjust or disassemble crane when jib is under load.
  • When moving jib, position the load in the center of the boom.
  • Be certain the load is directly beneath boom before load is lifted. Do not pull sideways on crane.
  • Ensure the load is not attached to the floor and remove any obstacles that impede lifting.
  • Adjustments and/or repairs should be made in an area where it will have the least interference with operation.
  • Never stand under jib when disassembling crane.
