Floor Locks

Overview

As mentioned above, caster floor locks are a great way to temporarily immobilize carts, machinery, or other types of equipment using industrial casters. Here are some basic tips to get you started in your selection process:

• Floor locks should only be used on level ground, not on an incline.
• Floor locks should not be used as jacks. See our caster jack options if you’d like your carts to leave the ground.
• The size of the lock should be equivalent to the size of the wheel diameter on the caster. Example – a 6 inch diameter caster will require a 6 inch floor lock.
• While the style of lock is user preference, heavy duty style floor locks will withstand a heavier load capacity and last longer than other styles. The ergonomic style is designed with employees’ safety in mind, as they are able to engage and disengage more easily than comparative styles.

Benefits

The main benefit of using a floor lock on equipment fitted with casters, is that it will prevent the equipment or cart from rolling away when it is unattended. This will further increase safety for your employees and the other equipment on your manufacturing floor or in your warehouse.

Barron Equipment offers a few different styles of floor locks, the most popular being pedal style and kick bar style. The pedal style, or part numbers that start with “FLP,” are easy to use. Kick bar styles, or part numbers that start with “FLW,” are mounted slightly differently to the application and can be accessed from the side, which makes them a more economical option.

Heavy duty floor locks are also available for more robust applications.
