BPB Freestanding Ball Transfer Table – Deep Plate, Straight Pattern

A freestanding ball transfer table with a deep plate design and smooth edges. Accepts standard LEWCO SPM, SPH, and SPL series floor supports for height elevations from 10 to 48 inches. 1-inch diameter steel ball transfers in a straight pattern on a 12-gauge formed steel plate. Available in widths from 12 to 50 inches and lengths from 12 to 120 inches. Optional guardrails, ball covers, and caster-mounted supports available. Designed as a dedicated standalone workstation for product positioning, rotation, and alignment.

Overview

The BPB is designed as a freestanding transfer table with smooth edges. It accepts standard LEWCO SPM and SPH series supports, making it a complete standalone workstation for manually rotating, repositioning, or removing flat bottom surfaced products.

Where the BPA plate is designed to sit on an existing surface with no provisions for supports, the BPB features a deeper pan profile that interfaces directly with LEWCO’s standard support systems. This allows the BPB to stand on its own at any height from 10 to 48 inches — creating a dedicated ball transfer workstation without requiring a separate table or platform underneath.

Specifications

  • Width: 12 inches to 50 inches
  • Length: 12 inches to 120 inches
  • Ball centers: 2 in., 3 in., 4 in., 6 in. Also available in dense (1.81 in. x 1.56 in.) and 3 in. staggered patterns.
  • Ball transfer: Standard 1-inch diameter steel ball with 1/4-20 UNC stud mount
  • Frame: 12-gauge formed steel pan with angle stiffeners on nominal 12-inch centers
  • Standard finish: OSHA safety blue powder coat. Optional colors available.

Support Options

The BPB accepts multiple LEWCO support configurations for different height and mobility requirements.

  • Height elevation: 10 inches to 48 inches (top of ball)
  • Adjustable height supports: Model SPM, SPH, or SPL
  • Mobile supports: Model SPHC5 — adjustable height supports on 5-inch casters with leg ties
  • Jack bolt supports: Model SPJ4 or SPJ4A — 4-inch formed channel with 1 to 2 inches of jack bolt adjustment

Floor supports can be provided on 5-foot or 10-foot nominal centers. Tables wider than 32 inches should use supports on 5-foot centers. Heights above 35 inches benefit from knee braces (model KB17) for added stability.

Load Capacity

Load capacity varies based on how many balls the product contacts at any given time. With an evenly distributed load, it is generally safe to use four times the capacity of an individual ball as the total table capacity. The standard 1-inch steel ball transfer with flange has a rated capacity of 65 lbs per ball.

Ball Transfer Options

  • Standard steel surface ball transfer (65 lb capacity per ball)
  • Stainless steel surface ball transfer (for corrosion-resistant applications)
  • Nylon surface ball transfer (for non-marring product handling)
  • Steel surface with flange ball transfer

Applications

The BPB freestanding ball transfer table is commonly used as a dedicated product positioning workstation at a fixed height, packaging stations where operators rotate items for labeling, wrapping, or inspection, end-of-line stations where products are aligned before palletizing, transition points within conveyor layouts where a standalone ball transfer table provides manual repositioning between conveyor runs, and mobile workstations when mounted on caster supports (model SPHC5) for repositioning within a facility.

Options

  • Guardrail: 12-gauge formed steel angle, 2 to 4 inches high, available on any side or all sides
  • Ball table cover plate: 12-gauge formed steel (not intended for walking on)

Selection Assistance

Choose the BPB when you need a freestanding ball transfer workstation at a specific height and do not have an existing table or platform to place it on. If you already have a work table, scissor lift, or cart and want to add ball transfer capability to that surface, the BPA plate-only model is more cost-effective. For a ball transfer section that connects inline with roller conveyors, the Roach Model B provides a conveyor-frame design with butt couplers.

FAQs

What is the difference between the BPB and BPA?

The BPB has a deeper pan profile that accepts LEWCO floor supports, making it a freestanding table at heights from 10 to 48 inches. The BPA is a flat plate with no support provisions — it sits on an existing surface. Both use the same 1-inch steel ball transfers and 12-gauge formed steel construction.

Can the BPB be made mobile?

Yes. The BPB accepts model SPHC5 supports with 5-inch casters and leg ties, creating a mobile ball transfer workstation that can be repositioned within a facility as needed.

Are the supports included with the BPB?

No. Supports are sold separately. This allows you to choose the exact support type and height that matches your workstation requirements.

What ball center spacing should I choose?

For small or lightweight products, choose 2-inch or dense spacing for maximum contact points. For medium products, 3-inch spacing is the most common general-purpose option. For large, heavy items that span multiple ball centers, 4-inch or 6-inch spacing is sufficient and reduces cost.

Does Barron Equipment help design ball transfer workstations?

Yes. Barron Equipment helps configure complete ball transfer workstations — selecting the right table size, ball spacing, support type, height, and accessories for your specific product handling requirements.
