Overview
When your production environment demands more lifting power than a basic workstation crane can deliver, the 351MD series fills that gap. This pillar base mounted floor-mounted crane is ideal for processes that involve heavier lifting and consistent use throughout the day. Fully customizable, this self-supporting, 360-degree rotating crane mounts to the floor using anchor bolts and a recommended foundation.
Available in 1-1/2 ton (3,000 lb) and 2 ton (4,000 lb) configurations, this mid-capacity industrial jib crane is engineered for production-line applications where the 1-ton limit of lighter-duty systems isn't enough — but the overhead of a full heavy-duty installation isn't yet justified. Whether you're lifting drivetrain components, positioning steel weldments, or supporting repetitive assembly operations, this system delivers reliable, consistent performance shift after shift.
Not sure which capacity is right? This page covers the 351MD series (3,000–4,000 lbs). For lighter loads up to 2,000 lbs, see the HSI 351. For heavier applications from 6,000 to 10,000 lbs, see the HSI 351HD.
Built for Production — Construction & Features
An industrial jib crane in the 3,000–4,000 lb range sees more load cycles, heavier lifts, and more continuous use than lighter models. The 351MD is engineered with exactly that in mind. Key construction features include:
- Heavy-duty assembly with reinforcing side plates for structural rigidity under sustained production loads
- Full plate-style gussets for maximum load distribution at the base
- Heavy-duty precision tapered roller bearings for longevity and ease of rotation
- Heavy-duty adjustable roller cage with low-friction bearings, adjustable tension bolts, and grease fittings
- Anti-tip angles to prevent head removal from accidental impact and dislodgment2360-degree rotation is standard. Motorized rotation is available in both electric and air-powered configurations to reduce operator injuries and improve efficiency in high-cycle applications. Hand-geared rotation is also available as an option.
Foundation & Mounting Requirements
Because of the higher load capacities in the 351MD range, foundation requirements are more substantial than lighter-duty configurations. Recommended foundation sizes are:
- 6' x 6' x 4' for span lengths of 8 to 10 feet (1-1/2 ton / 3,000 lb)
- 7' x 7' x 4' for span lengths of 12 to 14 feet
- 8' x 8' x 4' for span lengths of 16 to 20 feet2
These foundation dimensions should be reviewed against your facility's floor load capacity and planned anchor bolt layout. Barron Equipment can provide specification sheets to assist your facilities team with site preparation.
The base plate mounting style (Model 351) bolts the mast to the foundation using a base plate welded to the mast and reinforced with heavy-duty full plate gussets. It requires only a single concrete pour and is convenient for future relocation — a meaningful advantage for production environments that may reconfigure over time. Custom base and bolt hole patterns are available upon request.
Spans, Heights & Configuration
Standard spans and heights are available up to 30+ feet, and custom heights and spans can be configured for non-standard facility requirements.
3Model numbers follow a clear format: 351-[Capacity in lbs]-[Span in ft]-[HUB in ft]. For example, a 2 ton crane with a 14-foot span and a 12-foot Height Under Boom would be ordered as model 351-4000-14-12.4Available accessories include:
- Tight Wire Kit (Festooning / "Tagline") for cable management
- C Track Flat Cable Festooning
- Rotation Stops to restrict swing range
- Outdoor Application packages
- Hoist & Trolley Packages
- Template and Anchor Bolts
Industrial Applications
The 351MD capacity range is a natural fit for a wide range of production and industrial environments where loads consistently run above 1 ton. Common use cases include:
- Automotive and powertrain manufacturing — Lifting engines, transmissions, axle assemblies, and drivetrain subassemblies between workstations
- Metal fabrication and welding — Positioning steel structures, heavy weldments, and frames for machining or assembly operations
- Machine tending — Loading and unloading larger CNC machining centers, presses, and stamping equipment
- General manufacturing — Supporting mid-size assembly operations and repetitive material transfers in production cells
- Maintenance and overhaul — Removing and reinstalling heavy equipment, motors, or industrial gearboxes
Configure the Right System for Your Application
Selecting a floor-mounted crane for production use requires matching capacity, span, and HUB to your facility layout and workflow. Motorized rotation is worth serious consideration for high-cycle industrial environments — it reduces operator fatigue and increases throughput.
Barron Equipment's team can help you size and configure the right system, from standard off-the-shelf configurations to fully customized span, height, and accessory setups. Fill out the quote form below or contact us directly for a full specification and pricing quote.
