EOD Leveler

Edge of Dock Levelers – Mechanical & Hydraulic

Overview

Edge-of-dock levelers are offered with either mechanical or hydraulic operation. Both models mount directly to the dock face. No pit excavation. No concrete work. They are a budget-friendly option for lighter-duty docks where trailers arrive consistently at or near dock height. Barron Equipment is an authorized Poweramp dealer with over 43 years of installation and service experience. We sell, install, and service EOD levelers across the Midwest — and we can help you find the right fit for your dock.

Features & Benefits

The mechanical EOD uses a dual extension spring system. It is the same proven design that has made it the industry's top-selling edge-of-dock leveler for years. The dock attendant raises the leveler, positions it to the truck bed, and releases. It is that simple. No electrical connection required. The hydraulic model goes a step further. Push-button activation raises the leveler and extends the lip automatically. Hydraulic lip lock keeps the lip firmly in contact with the trailer bed during loading, and the exclusive speed control adjusts how fast the leveler descends. This gives operators a smoother, more controlled experience at the dock.

Both models are easy to maintain. Lip hinge tubes include grease fittings, making simple lubrication easy and extending the life of the hinge components. A quick routine lube keeps the unit in good working order for years. A milled lip option is available, providing a smooth transition from the bed of the truck to the loading dock. This is a good upgrade for facilities using hand trucks or carts. The Never Lift option is also available for the mechanical model. It lets the dock attendant reposition the leveler without manually lifting it — reducing strain and saving time. Because the EOD mounts to the dock face and needs no pit, installation is faster and less costly than pit-style levelers. That makes it one of the most accessible loading dock leveler options available.

EOD Series Features

Applications

Poweramp EOD levelers work best where trailers arrive consistently at or near dock height and daily cycle counts are light to moderate. They are a strong fit for the following applications:

  • Retail distribution and wholesale operations where trailers arrive at a consistent dock height and load volumes don't require heavy-duty pit levelers
  • Light manufacturing facilities loading packaged goods, finished products, or standard component deliveries
  • Facilities adding dock positions to an existing building without the budget or structural capacity for pit excavation
  • Leased warehouse space where permanent pit construction isn't allowed under the lease agreement
  • Budget-conscious dock upgrades replacing worn dock boards with a durable, installed leveler solution at a lower price point
  • Captured fleet operations where the facility controls trailer specs and can ensure consistent trailer height at the dock
If your trailers regularly arrive more than 5" above or below dock height — or loads are heavy-duty — a pit-style leveler is a better fit. Barron's product specialists can help you evaluate your trailer mix and point you in the right direction.

Selection Assistance

Choosing between the mechanical and hydraulic model comes down to two things: how you want the dock to operate and what your budget allows. The mechanical model is the most affordable option. It requires no electrical connection. It is durable, simple, and easy to operate. It is a great fit for lighter-duty docks where push-button controls aren't a priority. The hydraulic model adds push-button operation and more control over leveler speed. It is a better choice for higher-cycle docks or operations where reducing operator effort matters.

FAQs

What is an edge-of-dock leveler and how is it different from a pit leveler?

Edge-of-dock levelers mount directly to the dock face — no pit is needed. Pit-style levelers sit inside a recessed pit in the dock floor. EOD levelers provide a recommended working range of +/-3" and a maximum operating range of +/-5" above or below dock. Pit-style levelers offer a wider working range and higher capacities. EOD levelers are the more economical choice for lighter-duty, consistent-height dock operations.

What is the working range of the EOD leveler?

The Poweramp EOD leveler provides a recommended working range of +/-3" and a maximum operating range of +/-5" above or below dock. If your trailers often arrive outside that range, a pit-style leveler is a better fit.

What is the difference between the mechanical and hydraulic EOD models?

The mechanical model uses a dual extension spring lift mechanism for safe and easy operation. The hydraulic model offers push-button control with power extension and retraction of the lip and deck, a hydraulic lip lock, and an exclusive speed control for descent adjustment. The mechanical unit needs no electricity. The hydraulic unit does.

Does the EOD leveler require a pit or any construction?

No. Poweramp® edge-of-dock levelers mount directly to the dock face. No pit excavation or concrete work is needed. This makes them faster and less expensive to install than pit-style levelers.

What is the Never Lift option?

The Never Lift option provides the easiest mechanical EOD positioning available in the industry. The dock attendant can reposition the leveler without lifting it by hand — reducing effort and speeding up the docking process.

What is the Milled Lip option?

The Milled Lip option provides a smooth transition from the bed of the truck to the loading dock. It is a good upgrade for facilities that use hand trucks, carts, or other equipment that is sensitive to surface lips or edges.

Does Barron Equipment install and service EOD levelers?

Yes. Barron's service technicians have been installing and servicing Poweramp dock levelers for over 43 years. We handle new installations, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs — including levelers we didn't originally install. Fill out the form on this page to get started.
