2500 Series Dock Seal Diagram

Flexible Dock Shelter – 2500 Series

Overview

Most dock shelters can absorb a hit. The Series 2500 is designed to recover from one. Structural steel tubular frames with a spring bias "X" frame design allow the dock shelter to be contacted by a misaligned vehicle without causing damage to the unit or the building wall. Once the truck pulls away, the compression springs push the side frames back out to their fully projected position — ready to create a tight seal with the next trailer.

The flexible side frame assemblies incorporate plated compression springs to ensure the unit stays firmly projected in the extended position to create a tight fit to the top and sides of the vehicle body. When the truck backs in, the head curtain's Scotchply™ stays apply pressure to seal against the top of the trailer. The side curtains then create a "snug fit" to each side of the vehicle body, providing "full width" access to the rear interior of the vehicle. The top and side exterior perimeter is constructed of translucent flexible fabric panels to allow for natural light penetration into the loading dock area during material handling operations. High-visibility yellow guide stripes on the lower portion of each side curtain help drivers get the trailer backed in right the first time. A structural steel bumper/stop is included with each unit, mounting directly to the foundation wall to prevent the side frames from being driven back too far on contact.

Features and Benefits

Spring-Biased X-Frame
The flexible side frames use plated compression springs to stay firmly projected and create a tight fit to the vehicle body. After contact, the springs reset the frame to the extended position — no manual reset needed.
Structural Steel Bumper/Stop
A heavy-duty steel bumper/stop is included with each unit. It mounts to the foundation wall and prevents the side frames from being pushed back too far on impact.
3-M Scotchply™ Stays
Scotchply™ stays are built into the head and side curtains to help them firmly wrap around the top and sides of the truck body. Each stay is through-bolted to the frame for a secure hold.
Neoprene Foam Cord
A compressible neoprene cord is sewn into the leading edge of each side curtain. It conforms to the truck body's surface and creates a snug, weatherproof fit.
Dyna-Armor Wear Panels
Overlapping fabric wear panels at each end of the head curtain protect against damage from protruding truck roof corners — one of the most common wear points on any dock shelter.
Raked Head Frame & Wind Strap
The head frame slopes from the center to drain water away from the building and dock area. A wind strap keeps the head curtain pressed against the trailer top during high-wind conditions.
Reinforced Bottom Panel & Cover Fabric
A 2"–8" wedge-shaped foam bottom pad seals the lower corners and blocks air infiltration. A 3-ply option is available for heavier-use docks. Dynalon fabric is warranted against weathering for five years, including sunlight, water, cold, and heat.

Applications

The Series 2500 is the right choice for docks where trailer contact happens regularly and the shelter needs to reset itself after every event. This series accommodates the widest range of truck and building variations while yielding unobstructed accessibility to the interior of the vehicle, making it a solid fit across industries where mixed fleets, tight sealing, and full trailer access all matter at the same time. Here's where it performs best:
  • High-Volume Distribution Centers — Spring-return frames handle repeated contact through every shift without losing projection or sealing effectiveness.
  • Docks Serving Mixed Carrier Fleets — Active side frame pressure creates a consistent seal across a wide range of trailer widths and heights.
  • Challenging Approach Grades — If the approach is not level, the shelter frame can be configured to taper to accommodate the angle of the truck.
  • Climate-Controlled & Cold Storage Facilities — Constant spring-applied side pressure and a full head curtain seal keep conditioned air in and outside air out.
  • Operations That Can't Afford Shelter Downtime — The X-frame pivots, takes the hit, and resets. No bent hardware, no compressed foam that won't recover, no service call needed.

Selection Assistance

The Series 2500 is the best fit when trailer contact is frequent, your fleet is mixed, and you need the shelter to reset itself after every approach. It's a step up from passive foam-sided shelters in both durability and recovery speed. For proper sizing: the shelter frame should project 14"–18" beyond the dock bumper. At a flush dock with a 6" bumper projection, the standard projection should be 20"–24" for an 11'6" wide unit. The top of the shelter should be kept as close to 15'0" off grade as possible. FAQs

What makes the Series 2500 different from a foam-sided dock shelter?

The Series 2500 uses a spring bias "X" frame design that allows the shelter to be contacted by a misaligned vehicle without causing damage to the unit or the building wall. After contact, the compression springs push the side frames back to their projected position automatically. A foam-sided shelter compresses on contact but does not actively return to position under spring tension.

How does the Series 2500 seal against the trailer when docked?

When the truck enters the shelter, the head curtain stays apply pressure to seal against the top of the vehicle body while allowing unobstructed access to the full height of the vehicle. The side curtains then create a "snug fit" to each side, providing full-width access to the rear interior of the vehicle.

How far should the shelter project beyond the dock bumper?

The shelter frame should project 14"–18" beyond the dock bumper. At a flush dock with a 6" bumper projection, the standard projection should be 20"–24" for a standard 11'6" wide shelter. The top of the shelter should be kept as close to 15'0" off grade as possible.

What fabric options are available and is there a warranty?

The Series 2500 is available in Dynalon, Dynaflex, and other fabric grades. Dynalon is warranted against weathering for five years, covering sunlight, water, cold, and heat. All Fairborn products are also warranted against defects in workmanship and materials for one year from the date of shipment, when properly sized, installed, and maintained.

Does Barron Equipment install and service the Series 2500?

Yes. Barron's team has been installing dock shelters for over 43 years. We install new shelters, replace old ones, and handle all types of dock shelter repairs and rehinging.
