3000 Series Dock Seal Diagram

Flexible Dock Shelters – 3000 Series

Overview

The Fairborn Series 3000 is built for docks that need deeper projection and a more adjustable fit. Its pivot arm and 4-wheel trolley system lets the outer cover ride the profile of the truck as it enters the dock — sealing tightly to the top and sides without rigid hardware blocking the opening. Barron Equipment has over 40 years of experience selling, installing, and maintaining loading dock equipment, and the Series 3000 is one of the most configurable dock shelter options in our lineup.

Features and Benefits

The Series 3000 uses a pivot arm system with upper and lower arm assemblies, a 4-wheel trolley, and an adjustable tension chain. The flexible outer cover attaches to the pivot arms and is split with Touch and Hold closures, allowing the cover to conform to different trailer profiles. When tension is needed, it can be increased simply by dropping links in the chain — no tools required.

The adjustable head curtain includes a standard 1'-0" drop flap and Touch and Hold patches, making field adjustment easy. Dynalon fabric is warranted against weathering for five years, covering the effects of sunlight, water, cold, and heat. Dyna-Armor wear panels protect the head curtain corners where truck roofs make repeated contact, and high-visibility yellow guide stripes on the side curtains help drivers position accurately at the dock opening.

One important sizing note: if an inclined drive approach requires a greater than 3" differential in top and bottom projection, this series shelter is not suitable. Level and declined approaches work well with the 3000.

Applications

The Series 3000 is built for docks where standard projection depths aren't enough and where the range of incoming trailer heights and widths varies enough to need an adjustable cover system. All Fairborn products are warranted to be free from original defects in workmanship and materials for one year from the date of shipment, provided they have been properly sized, stored, installed, serviced, maintained, and operated. It's a reliable, field-adjustable solution for facilities that can't afford to stop and call for service every time conditions change. Here's where it performs best:

  • Docks with Deeper Bumper Projections — Projection options of 15", 20", 25", and 30" handle docks where a standard 20"–24" projection falls short of properly sealing the trailer.
  • High-Volume Facilities with Mixed Trailer Fleets — The Touch and Hold split cover and adjustable head curtain accommodate varying trailer body shapes and heights without hardware changes.
  • Climate-Controlled & Cold Storage Environments — The conforming cover and foam bottom pads create a complete perimeter seal, minimizing conditioned air loss and outside infiltration.
  • Level or Declined Drive Approaches — The 3000 performs well on level and declined approaches. If an inclined drive requires more than a 3" differential in top and bottom projection, this series is not suitable.
  • Facilities That Need On-Site Adjustability — Tension can be tuned in the field with the adjustable chain. The head curtain repositions with Touch and Hold patches. No service call needed for routine adjustments.

Selection Assistance

The Series 3000 is the right choice when you need more projection depth, an adjustable cover system, or a field-tunable shelter that can handle a range of trailer profiles without modifying the frame. For sizing: it is recommended that the shelter frame project 14"–18" beyond the dock bumper. At a flush dock with a 6" bumper projection, the standard projection should be 20"–24" for a standard 11'6" wide shelter. The top of the shelter should be kept as close to 15'0" off grade as possible. Barron's team has been installing dock shelters for over 43 years and can replace old shelters or install new ones on openings that have never had a shelter before. FAQs

What makes the Series 3000 different from the Series 2500?

The Series 3000 uses a pivot arm and 4-wheel trolley system with an adjustable tension chain. The outer cover rides on the trolley arms and is split with Touch and Hold closures, allowing it to conform to different trailer profiles. The Series 2500 uses a spring-biased X-frame that actively resets to a projected position after trailer contact. The 3000 also offers greater projection depth — options of 15", 20", 25", and a maximum of 30" — compared to a standard 20"–24" range.

Can the spring tension on the Series 3000 be adjusted in the field?

Yes. Tension springs hook to screw eyes on the upper and lower pivot arms. Spring tension can be increased by dropping links in the chain. This can be done on-site without specialized tools or a service call.

Is the Series 3000 suitable for inclined drive approaches?

If an inclined drive requires a greater than 3" differential in top and bottom projection, this series shelter is not suitable. It works well on level and declined drive approaches. A Barron Equipment team member can help evaluate your approach grade during the sizing process.

How far should the shelter frame project beyond the dock bumper?

The shelter frame should project 14"–18" beyond the dock bumper. At a flush dock with a 6" bumper projection, the standard projection should be 20"–24" for a standard 11'6" wide shelter. The top of the shelter should be kept as close to 15'0" off grade as possible.

What fabric options are available and is there a warranty?

Dynalon is warranted against weathering for five years, including the effects of sunlight, water, cold, and heat. All Fairborn products are warranted against defects in workmanship and materials for one year from date of shipment, when properly sized, installed, and maintained. Additional fabric grades are also available.
