Automatic Loading Dock Truck Restraint – PowerStop Series

Overview

The PowerStop® is a non-impact, hydraulic vehicle restraint, available as a standalone unit or integrated with other loading dock equipment through an optional integrated control panel. The unit helps prevent unexpected trailer departure from the loading dock during the loading and unloading process.Once a trailer is backed into position against the dock bumpers, the operator presses "Engage," activating the PowerStop to rise vertically to the trailer's Rear Impact Guard (RIG), placing a stop behind the RIG and preventing the trailer from being able to pull away. The restraint maintains contact with the RIG and adjusts automatically with the trailer float motion to ensure proper engagement at all times. After loading is complete, the operator presses "Release," lowering the PowerStop unit to a safely stored position, releasing the trailer.

What sets this restraint apart is its built-in verification. The RIG sensor bar notifies the operator if the restraint is not securely engaged to the trailer's Rear Impact Guard. That's a critical layer of safety. You know it worked before the loading cycle begins. The fully automatic PowerStop® is affordable and easy to install. It is ideal for all manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution applications.

Features & Benefits

All Poweramp PowerStop® Automatic Truck Restraints are designed to secure a cargo trailer's Rear Impact Guard to reduce the likelihood of premature trailer separation during the loading process. The exclusive PowerStop® vehicle restraint features a hydraulic restraint mechanism with power package, inside iDock control panel, exterior communication lights, and instructional signs. The PowerStop® is a hydraulically actuated restraint. It raises vertically to find and maintain a hold on the RIG throughout loading and unloading operations. The dual locking restraint arm minimizes trailer creep. As an optional safety feature, the dock leveler and the vehicle restraint can be interlocked, preventing operation of the dock leveler until the restraint is activated. The PowerStop® is designed to be a stationary mount, non-impact device, permanently mounted to the loading dock foundation or drive approach.

The restraint is preserved in a zinc finish for all-weather protection. The restraint arm is preserved in a highly visible zinc dichromate finish that is highly resistant to corrosion and protected by a bellow-style cover to eliminate the accumulation of debris. The PowerStop restraint uses iDock® Controls with an LED 3-color light communication system. As a truck approaches, the exterior light is green and the interior light is red. Once the trailer is restrained, the interior light changes to green and the exterior light to red, warning the driver not to pull away from the dock. When the trailer is released and the restraint hook is safely stored, the lights revert back to a green exterior and red interior. An interior amber "caution" light is used if needed for bypass mode or faults. Low-profile exterior lights are standard with LED for extended life. One light shows a red X and a green circle for color-impaired individuals. A set of caution signs warns truck drivers to "Pull in or out on green only."

Applications

The fully automatic PowerStop® is affordable and easy to install and is ideal for all manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution applications. It can be integrated with any mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic dock leveler, making it extremely versatile for a wide variety of applications. It is the right fit for facilities that want a non-impact dock lock that doesn't rely on a hook mechanism — especially where the drive approach needs to stay clear or where a hydraulic system is preferred.

The PowerStop is the right fit for:

  • Facilities integrating with an existing dock leveler — the PowerStop can be integrated with any mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic dock leveler, including edge-of-dock and pit-style configurations
  • Facilities looking to reduce maintenance and operating costs — the PowerStop® can be combined with a Poweramp® VH or PR dock leveler and run off the same pump and motor as the leveler, reducing maintenance and electrical costs
  • New construction and retrofit applications — the system is designed to be permanently mounted to the loading dock foundation or drive approach, available with wall or ground mounting options
  • Docks requiring leveler interlock — integrated iDock® Controls support safe leveler interlock, and limit switches for door interlock are also available as options
  • Docks that need engagement verification — the RIG sensor bar notifies the operator if the restraint is not securely engaged to the trailer's Rear Impact Guard, providing built-in confirmation before loading begins
  • Distribution and manufacturing facilities — the PowerStop is affordable, easy to install, and ideal for all manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution applications

Selection Assistance

The PowerStop is the right choice for facilities that want a proven, non-impact dock lock system with hydraulic operation, built-in engagement verification, and the flexibility to integrate with virtually any dock leveler — including the option to share the leveler's pump and motor to reduce costs. FAQs

What makes the PowerStop different from a hook-style restraint?

The PowerStop® is a non-impact, hydraulic vehicle restraint.Once a trailer is backed into position against the dock bumpers, the operator presses "Engage," activating the PowerStop to rise vertically to the trailer's Rear Impact Guard (RIG), placing a stop behind the RIG and preventing the trailer from being able to pull away. It never makes contact with incoming trailers, which reduces wear and protects the drive approach area.

What is the RIG sensor bar and why does it matter?

The RIG sensor bar notifies the operator if the restraint is not securely engaged to the trailer's Rear Impact Guard. If the restraint is not securely engaged to the trailer's RIG, the inside light will change to red and an optional audible alarm will sound. This verification step ensures dock workers know the restraint is properly locked before entering the trailer.

How much holding force does the PowerStop provide?

The PowerStop® restraint can withstand a pulling force in excess of 32,000 lbs., giving an added margin of safety and protection. Maximum operational range is 10" horizontally from the face of dock bumpers, and 12" minimum to 29¼" maximum vertically.Additional ranges are available for certain applications.

Can the PowerStop be integrated with a dock leveler?

Yes. The PowerStop® vehicle restraint is available as a standalone unit or combined electrically and/or hydraulically with your dock leveler selection. The hydraulic pump and motor is 1/4 HP requiring 4.6 Amps at 115V single phase. It can also be combined with a Poweramp® VH or PR dock leveler and run off the same pump and motor as the leveler, reducing maintenance and electrical costs.

Is the PowerStop weatherproof?

The PowerStop® is designed to be a stationary mount, non-impact device, permanently mounted to loading dock foundation or drive approach. The restraint is preserved in a zinc finish for all-weather protection. The restraint arm is preserved in a highly visible zinc dichromate finish that is highly resistant to corrosion and protected by a bellow-style cover to eliminate the accumulation of debris.

What is the warranty on the PowerStop?

All PowerStop® vehicle restraints feature a full one (1) year base warranty on all structural, hydraulic, and electrical parts, including freight and labor charges. Systems, LLC warrants all components to be free of defects in materials and workmanship, under normal use, during the warranty period. This base warranty period begins upon the completion of installation or the sixtieth (60th) day after shipment, whichever is earlier.

What mounting options are available for the PowerStop?

The PowerStop® features a low-profile, non-impact design that supports wall or driveway mounting.Common options include cantilever bracket with a requested projection, remote power pack inside pit or inside building, and optional mounting hardware for wall or ground.
