Overview
Barron Equipment supplies the Action Industries DSK00-08-W, an 8-foot galvanized retainer designed to mount weather seals on loading dock levelers. This heavy-duty galvanized steel channel is welded directly to the dock leveler and serves as the foundation of the complete seal system — holding the aluminum retainer and weather seal in place to block dust, debris, drafts, pests, and moisture at the leveler perimeter.
The galvanized retainer is included in all Action Industries dock leveler seal kits, but it is also available individually for replacement installations, leveler retrofits, or custom configurations where additional retainer sections are needed.
How the Dock Leveler Seal System Works
A dock leveler weather seal system uses three components working together. The galvanized retainer is welded to the dock leveler to create a permanent mounting channel. A compatible 1-inch 90-degree aluminum retainer slides into the galvanized channel. The weather seal — brush, EPDM rubber, or vinyl — then installs into the aluminum retainer to create the final barrier against the elements.
This layered design allows the weather seal and aluminum retainer to be removed, replaced, or upgraded without cutting or re-welding the galvanized channel. When a seal wears out, only the seal itself needs to be replaced. If the aluminum retainer is damaged, it slides out of the galvanized channel and a new one slides in.
Compatibility
The DSK00-08-W is designed to work with the Action Industries A0088-MI-W-4 1-inch 90-degree aluminum retainer, which slides into the galvanized channel. Once the aluminum retainer is in place, it accepts standard-sized brush seals, EPDM rubber seals, and the PL213-GR-W-7 vinyl dock leveler seal from Action Industries. This gives facility managers the flexibility to choose the seal material that best fits their environment — brush for sub-zero or wet conditions, EPDM rubber for general-purpose sealing, or vinyl for standard commercial applications.
Installation
The galvanized retainer installs via quick-weld to the loading dock leveler. Before welding, verify the mounting area and channel orientation. Dry-fit the retainer along with the compatible aluminum retainer to confirm proper alignment and seal contact before making the weld permanent. When multiple 8-foot sections are needed, align adjoining pieces carefully to create a continuous seal path. After welding, confirm the aluminum retainer slides freely into the galvanized channel without binding. Use appropriate welding practices for the dock leveler material and mounting surface.
