Overview
Some operations require more than a workstation crane can deliver. When loads push past 5,000 lbs, cycle demands are relentless, and downtime isn't an option, the 351HD is the system that holds up. This pillar base mounted jib crane is built to last and is ideal for processes that involve heavy lifting and constant use throughout the day. Fully customizable, this self-supporting 360-degree rotating crane mounts to the floor using anchor bolts and a recommended foundation.
Barron Equipment sells 351HD configurations from 3 ton (6,000 lbs) to 5 ton (10,000 lbs) for direct ecommerce purchase. Need more? The 351 series supports capacities up to 15 ton (30,000 lbs) — contact Barron Equipment for a custom configuration quote.
Whether you're servicing large equipment in a maintenance bay, positioning steel weldments in a fabrication shop, or supporting continuous heavy-lift operations in an industrial production environment, the 351HD is engineered to perform.
Looking for a lighter configuration? See the HSI 351 (up to 2,000 lbs) or HSI 351MD (3,000–4,000 lbs) for lower-capacity applications.
Built for Constant Heavy-Lift Duty — Features & Construction
At these load capacities, structural integrity and long service life aren't optional. The 351HD delivers both. Key construction features include:
- Heavy-duty assembly with reinforcing side plates for structural rigidity under the most demanding load conditions
- Full plate-style gussets for maximum load distribution at the base
- Heavy-duty top thrust bearing with pressure-fitted housing for smooth, consistent rotation under heavy loads
- Heavy-duty roller cage built with steel rollers, low-friction bearings, adjustable tension bolts, a keeper bar, and zerk fittings — designed for longevity in high-cycle environments
- Anti-tip angles to prevent accidental head removal from impact, and spacer rods to prevent head assembly plate flexing — built with safety in mind
At 3 ton and above, operator effort required to rotate the crane arm increases significantly. Motorized rotation — available in both electric and air-powered configurations — is designed specifically to reduce injuries and create efficiency in heavy-lift production environments.
For applications in this capacity range, powered rotation is strongly recommended. Hand-geared rotation is also available.
Capacities, Spans & Ecommerce vs. Custom
Ecommerce configurations available at Barron Equipment cover the following ranges:
| Capacity | Rating |
|---|---|
| 3 ton | 6,000 lbs |
| 5 ton | 10,000 lbs |
Standard spans and heights are available up to 30+ feet, with custom heights and spans configurable to fit non-standard facility requirements.
Model numbers follow a straightforward format: 351-[Capacity in lbs]-[Span in ft]-[HUB in ft]. For example, a 5 ton crane with an 18-foot span and a 14-foot Height Under Boom would be ordered as model 351-10000-18-14.4
Custom configurations above 10,000 lbs are available through direct quote — contact Barron Equipment to discuss capacity, span, mounting style, and lead time.
Mounting & Foundation
The base plate mounting style (Model 351) bolts the mast to the foundation using a base plate welded to the mast and reinforced with heavy-duty full plate gussets. It requires a single concrete pour and is designed to be convenient for future relocation. Custom base and bolt hole patterns are available upon request.
At 3 ton and 5 ton capacities, foundation dimensions are more substantial than lighter configurations. Barron Equipment provides specification sheets to support your facilities team during site preparation and structural review. Contact us for foundation specs matched to your specific capacity, span, and mounting configuration.
Options & Accessories
Available options and accessories include:
- Tight Wire Kit (Festooning / "Tagline") — clean, managed cable routing along the crane arm
- C Track Flat Cable Festooning — for flat cable power delivery to the hoist
- Rotation Stops — limit the rotational travel of the crane arm
- Outdoor Application — weather and corrosion protection package
- Hoist & Trolley Packages — configured to match your capacity and lift height requirements
- Template and Anchor Bolts — for precise foundation layout2
At this capacity range, hoist selection is critical. Barron Equipment can help configure the right electric chain hoist or wire rope hoist for your 3-ton or 5-ton application, including single- and double-speed options and VFD (variable frequency drive) configurations for precision load control.
Heavy Industrial Applications
The 351HD series is built for the most demanding industrial environments — applications where lighter systems simply aren't rated for the job. Common use cases include:
- Heavy manufacturing — Positioning large weldments, castings, or structural steel components between production stations
- Automotive and powertrain plants — Lifting engines, transmissions, axle assemblies, and complete drivetrain packages
- Shipbuilding and defense — Repetitive heavy-lift operations in confined or defined work zones
- Aerospace maintenance — Positioning large fuselage or structural components during overhaul
- Power generation and utilities — Lifting motors, generators, transformers, and heavy rotating equipment during installation or maintenance
- Steel and metals processing — Material handling in forging, press, and rolling mill environments
- Custom and heavy fabrication shops — High-capacity crane coverage in environments where bridge cranes can't reach
