Overview

Barron Equipment supplies the Action Industries A1550 L-shaped aluminum bottom seal retainer, designed to mount directly to the bottom edge of 1/2 inch thick garage doors. This single-channel retainer holds T-end vinyl bulb seals in place along the bottom of the door, creating a reliable barrier against drafts, moisture, debris, leaves, insects, and small pests when the door is fully closed.

The L-shaped 1/2″ x 1-1/2″ profile fastens to the bottom panel of the door and provides a secure channel for a 1/4″ T-end seal. Built from solid, heavy-duty aluminum in a mill finish, the A1550 resists corrosion and holds up under daily use without rusting or warping. It is available in eight pre-cut lengths ranging from 5′-1″ to 18′-4″ to fit virtually any standard residential or commercial garage door.

Compatible Seals

The A1550 features a single-channel jaw designed specifically for 1/4″ T-end bottom seals. Compatible seal types include T-end vinyl bulb seals and T-style rubber seals from Action Industries. This retainer is not compatible with double-end T-style seals, bead-end seals, or P-bulb seals. If your door uses a different bottom seal profile, Barron’s product team can help identify the correct retainer from a photo or measurement of your existing setup.

Applications

Bottom seal retainers close the gap between the bottom edge of the garage door and the floor or threshold. Without a properly fitted bottom seal, cold air, rain, wind-driven debris, dust, and pests can enter the building interior even when the door is fully closed. The A1550 is designed for 1/2 inch thick garage doors, including wood garage doors, vinyl garage doors, overhead doors, and doors from manufacturers like Clopay and Wayne Dalton. It works on both residential and commercial doors and can be paired with a garage door threshold seal for additional weatherproofing protection on uneven surfaces.

Available Lengths

The A1550 retainer is available in mill finish aluminum in eight pre-cut lengths to fit virtually any door width: 5′-1″, 8′-2″, 9′-2″, 10′-2″, 12′-4″, 14′-4″, 16′-4″, and 18′-4″. The retainer can also be cut to length with standard tools for non-standard door widths. For door sizes that fall outside of these options, Barron Equipment can work with Action Industries to provide custom-cut retainers to your exact specifications.

Installation

The A1550 is designed for straightforward DIY installation. Measure the width of your garage door and select the appropriate retainer length. Position the L-shaped retainer along the bottom edge of the door panel with the channel facing down, and fasten it to the door with appropriate hardware. Once the retainer is secured, slide the compatible T-end bottom seal into the channel. Confirm the seal makes even contact with the floor or threshold when the door is closed. After cutting any aluminum to length, remove sharp edges or burrs before inserting the seal.

Selection Assistance

Choosing the right bottom seal retainer starts with two measurements: the thickness of your door panel and the width of your door opening. The A1550 is built for 1/2 inch thick door panels. If your door panel is thicker, a different bottom retainer profile from Action Industries may be required. Barron Equipment also carries L-shaped, U-shaped, flat, and tongue-and-groove bottom retainers in a range of sizes to fit nearly any door configuration.

Not sure which bottom retainer fits your door? Send Barron Equipment a photo of your existing retainer with a tape measure visible in the frame. Include a close-up of the retainer profile and a wider photo showing where it mounts on the door. Our team can evaluate the correct replacement and recommend a compatible bottom seal to go with it.

FAQs

What bottom seals work with this retainer?

The A1550 accepts 1/4" T-end bottom seals, including T-end vinyl bulb seals and T-style rubber seals from Action Industries. Double-end T-style seals, bead-end seals, and P-bulb seals are not compatible with this single-channel retainer.

How do I know if my garage door is 1/2 inch thick?

Measure the thickness of the bottom edge of your garage door panel where the retainer mounts. If the panel measures approximately 1/2 inch, the A1550 is the correct fit. If your door panel is thicker, contact Barron Equipment for help identifying the right bottom retainer for your door.

Can I use this retainer with a threshold seal?

Yes. The A1550 bottom seal retainer can be paired with a garage door threshold seal for additional weatherproofing. A threshold seal is mounted to the floor beneath the door and works together with the bottom seal to create a tighter barrier against water, debris, and drafts on uneven surfaces.

Can the retainer be cut to fit my door width?

Yes. The aluminum retainer can be cut to length with standard tools. Remove any sharp edges or burrs after cutting, and confirm the bottom seal slides smoothly into the channel before securing the retainer to the door.

Does Barron Equipment install bottom seal retainers?

Yes. Barron Equipment provides weather seal measurement, product selection, and professional installation services throughout Iowa. Whether you need a single bottom seal replaced or a full-perimeter weather seal system installed, our service technicians handle the entire process.
