Low Profile Cast-In Style Truck Restraint

NOVA Low Profile Cast-In Style Truck Lock™ ensures dock safety with durable, low-clearance design and high pull-away resistance

Overview

The Cast-In Style housing is designed to be embedded into the concrete drive. This installation method provides years of trouble-free service without any damage to the building, unlike other restraints that attach to the dock wall. The zinc-plated housing is completely self-contained and is designed to handle the harshest loading dock environments. After the truck or trailer backs into position against the dock bumpers, the dock attendant switches the Truck Lock™ to the RESTRAIN position, activating the restraint. The outside light turns red and the inside light turns green. After verifying the ram bar is above the rear impact guard, the attendant may enter the trailer. When loading or unloading is complete, the attendant switches the Truck Lock™ to the RELEASE position, lowering the ram bar. The outside light turns green and the inside light turns red.

Features & Benefits

What sets the Low Profile Cast-In Style apart from other dock restraints is the combination of its industry-leading stored height, concrete-embedded housing, and simplified activation system. At just 7.5 inches retracted, it is the lowest stored restraint in the industry — purpose-built for use with lift gates and steep decline approaches where taller restraints simply cannot operate. All activation components are mounted inside the building and protected from harsh environments and weather, while a low-maintenance design with very few moving parts minimizes downtime.

The unit is built for long-term performance in demanding conditions. The vertical ram bar is made from 4 5/16-inch wide by 1-inch thick ASTM A-514 Grade B plate with a minimum yield strength of 100,000 PSI. The zinc-plated finish provides exceptional corrosion resistance, and a flood-proof design with environmentally friendly biodegradable fluid provides lubrication and prevents freezing under normal conditions. The control box plugs into any 120VAC 60Hz outlet and draws only 0.5 amps. All components are UL listed or recognized for industrial use. All LED lights operate on a 24V circuit. A qualified electrician is not required to install the Truck Lock™ as it is considered low voltage — though local ordinances and codes should always be followed. The restraint will remain in position and can be released normally in the event of a loss of electricity. Available in manual or powered (pneumatic) versions, standard LED lights provide long life and reduce electrical power consumption.

Applications

The Low Profile Cast-In Style is the right choice when standard dock-wall-mounted restraints are not feasible or when the vehicle mix at your dock includes lift gate trucks and steep approach grades — environments where ultra-low stored height is non-negotiable.

  • Docks with lift gate trucks — the 7.5 inch stored height is the lowest in the industry, allowing service to a wider range of truck types that would otherwise clear or damage a taller restraint
  • Steep decline or incline approach docks — the low-profile cast-in housing sits below grade, clearing vehicles that approach at sharp angles
  • New construction projects — a concrete hole form can be positioned prior to pouring the dock approach; the 10-inch diameter form comes in 12-inch sections for a clean, designed-in installation
  • Non-traditional and open dock types — installs at nontraditional dock types with a small footprint, including open docks via the optional stanchion kit
  • Facilities with asphalt approaches — an optional rebar installation kit is available for asphalt or other non-concrete approach applications
  • Metal building environments — a console support kit designed for non-structural areas of metal building walls anchors to the floor for optimal placement

Selection Assistance

The NOVA Truck Lock™ Low Profile Cast-In Style is backed by an Extended 5-Year General Warranty on the control box, plus an Extended Limited Lifetime General Warranty — valid for the duration of time the original purchaser owns the building — covering the ram housing assembly, ram bar, housing cover, console assembly, pulleys, cable, and brackets. This is the longest warranty in the industry.

Choose the Low Profile Cast-In Style when your dock must accommodate lift gate delivery trucks, features a steep approach grade, or requires an embedded installation that places zero load on the building structure. Barron Equipment has been installing and servicing Nova truck restraints across the Midwest for over 43 years. Contact Barron to request a quote or schedule a site assessment.

FAQs

What is the stored height of the NOVA Truck Lock™ Low Profile Cast-In Style?

The 7½-inch version is the lowest stored height of any restraint in the industry, allowing service to a wider range of truck types. This makes it the preferred choice for docks that regularly receive lift gate trucks or service vehicles with steep decline approaches.

How does the Cast-In Style differ from a wall-mounted restraint?

The Cast-In Style housing is designed to be embedded into the concrete drive. This installation method provides years of trouble-free service without any damage to the building, unlike other restraints that attach to the dock wall. It also places all activation components inside the building, protecting them from weather and wear.

Does the Truck Lock™ require a licensed electrician to install?

A qualified electrician is not required to install a Truck Lock™ as they are considered low voltage — however, always follow local ordinances and codes to determine actual site requirements. The drop cord can be plugged into any 120VAC 60Hz outlet and only draws 0.5 amps.

What happens to the restraint if power is lost?

The restraint will remain in position and can be released normally in the event of a loss of electricity. This ensures trailers stay secured even during a power outage, and dock attendants can safely complete their operations.

Can the Truck Lock™ be installed in an asphalt approach?

Yes. A rebar installation kit is available for use when installing the lock in asphalt or other non-concrete approach applications. This optional kit allows the Cast-In Style housing to be properly anchored where standard concrete embedding is not possible.

What is the warranty on the NOVA Truck Lock™ Low Profile Cast-In Style?

The Truck Lock™ comes with an Extended 5-Year General Warranty on the control box, and an Extended Limited Lifetime General Warranty that applies for as long as the original purchaser owns the building or structure at which the unit is installed. This lifetime warranty covers the ram housing assembly, ram bar, housing cover, console assembly, pulleys, cable, and brackets.

Is the Low Profile Cast-In Style available in manual and powered versions?

The restraint is activated by turning a switch or moving a slide bar on the control console to the RESTRAIN position. The powered version uses a pneumatic cylinder that actuates the aircraft-grade stainless steel cable. The mechanical version uses a slide bar located inside the building within a powder-coated steel enclosure to actuate the cable.Powered operations require air from a plant system or small compressor. Air must be dry, clean, and at a minimum of 80 PSI and maximum of 130 PSI.
