Overview

The Handle It SA-90 is a semi-automatic horizontal orbital wrapper built for facilities that need to bundle and protect long, narrow, or grouped products with stretch film. Unlike pallet wrappers that wrap vertically around a load on a turntable, the SA-90 wraps horizontally — the product passes through a rotating ring that applies film around the circumference of the item as it moves through the machine.

With a 36″ (900mm) ring diameter and capacity for products up to approximately 33″ wide and 21″ tall, the SA-90 handles a wide range of bundling applications including extrusions, piping, steel tubing, trim, moldings, cabinetry frames, and assembled parts. The twin film reel carriage applies even wrapping coverage and reduces the frequency of film changes. The compact frame fits into existing workspaces and plugs into a standard 110V outlet.

Features and Benefits

The twin film reel carriage is a key advantage of the SA-90. By running two 6.7″-wide film reels simultaneously, the machine delivers even, balanced stretch wrapping across the product surface while cutting the number of film reel changes in half compared to single-reel machines. This keeps throughput high during long production runs and reduces operator downtime.

Variable film tension and wrap speed controls allow the operator to adjust wrapping parameters for different product types and materials. Delicate items like finished moldings or furniture components can be wrapped with lighter tension to avoid surface damage, while rigid steel tubing or bundled extrusions can be wrapped tighter for maximum containment force. Ring rotation speed is adjustable from 5 to 100 RPM.

The SA-90 operates via foot pedal or manual push-button control, giving the operator flexibility to activate the wrap cycle with hands free when feeding product through the ring. A manual safety override provides added operator protection during use. Double automatic film cutting and clamping with blade protection are standard features.

How Orbital Wrapping Works

In orbital wrapping, the product is fed horizontally through a rotating ring. As the ring spins, it carries the film reel carriage around the product, applying stretch film in a spiral pattern along the length of the item. The operator feeds the product through the ring either manually or with optional entry and exit roller tables, and the machine wraps continuously as the product passes through.

This approach is fundamentally different from pallet wrapping. Pallet wrappers apply film vertically around a stationary or rotating load. Orbital wrappers apply film horizontally around a product that moves through the ring. This makes orbital wrapping ideal for long items that cannot stand upright on a turntable — and for bundling multiple smaller items into a single wrapped package for shipping or storage.

Applications

The SA-90 is designed for manufacturers, fabricators, warehouses, and packaging operations that handle long, narrow, or bundled products. Common applications include wrapping trim and molding for shipping protection, bundling steel tubing, pipe, or bar stock, packaging extrusions and profiles, wrapping cabinetry frames, furniture parts, or assembled components, protective stretch wrapping of panels, shelving, or grouped materials, and bundling irregularly shaped or mixed-material products for secure transport.

The compact 56″ W x 31″ D x 67″ H footprint fits into existing production lines and packaging stations without requiring significant floor space. Optional entry and exit roller tables and product centering guides can be added to streamline product flow through the ring.

Selection Assistance

The SA-90 is the right choice when your facility needs to bundle or protect long, narrow, or grouped products that cannot be wrapped on a conventional pallet wrapper. If any of the following describe your operation, this model is likely the best fit:

You wrap trim, moldings, tubing, extrusions, or profiles for shipping protection. You bundle multiple items together into a single wrapped package. Your products are up to 33″ wide and need horizontal wrap coverage along their length. You want to reduce the labor and inconsistency of hand wrapping long items. You need a compact machine that fits into an existing production line or packaging area.

If your products are wider than 33″, Handle It offers larger orbital wrappers in the SA Series with ring diameters from 49″ up to 98″ for furniture, doors, windows, cabinets, and other bulky items. If you need to wrap pallets rather than bundle individual products, the Handle It turntable, rotary arm, and mobile stretch wrappers are the right product category.

FAQs

What is the difference between an orbital wrapper and a pallet wrapper?

A pallet wrapper applies stretch film vertically around a pallet load — the load either spins on a turntable or a rotary arm circles around it. An orbital wrapper applies film horizontally around a product as it passes through a spinning ring. Orbital wrappers are designed for long, narrow, or bundled items like tubing, trim, and furniture components. Pallet wrappers are designed for palletized loads.

What size products can the SA-90 wrap?

The SA-90 accommodates products up to approximately 33″ wide and 21″ tall (maximum height depends on product width). Minimum product size is 8″ x 8″ with a minimum length of 14″. Allow approximately 2″ of clearance inside the ring dimensions.

Does the SA-90 require compressed air?

Yes, the SA-90 requires a 90 PSI air supply for the automatic film cutting and clamping system. The electrical side runs on standard 110V power.

Can I add conveyor tables to feed products through the ring?

Yes. Optional entry and exit roller tables and product centering guides are available to streamline product flow through the wrapping ring. These are especially useful for repetitive wrapping of uniform products in a production line setting.

What film does the SA-90 use?

The SA-90 uses twin 6.7″-wide stretch film reels with a 1.5″ core. The dual-reel design provides even wrapping coverage and reduces the frequency of reel changes during long production runs.
