2200 Series Dock Seal Diagram

Soft Sided Dock Shelter – 2200 Series

Overview

When your loading dock services a wide variety of trailer sizes, inconsistent backing approaches, or climate-controlled environments, a foam-sided enclosure delivers a level of flexibility that rigid alternatives simply can't match. Backed by Fairborn's decades of commitment to the highest quality in both appearance and structural integrity — and built with one of their superior performance materials, Dynalon, which carries extraordinary life expectancy thanks to its excellent tear and abrasion resistance properties — the Series 2200 is a proven workhorse that Barron Equipment has been selling, installing, and servicing throughout the Midwest for over 40 years.

Features and Benefits

3-M Scotchply™ Stays & Multi-Ply Stay Sleeve
3-M Scotchply™ stays are incorporated into the head and side curtains to enable the curtains to firmly "hug" the top and sides of the vehicle body. Each stay is through-bolted to the frames for a positive attachment point. The multi-ply stay sleeve adds another layer of resilience, keeping the curtain profile tight against the trailer across a wide variety of vehicle heights and widths.
Neoprene Foam Cord
The leading edge of each side curtain includes a compressible neoprene cord sewn in place to conform to the vehicle body's irregularities, providing a "snug fit." This conforming action creates an effective perimeter seal that blocks air infiltration, moisture, dust, insects, and exhaust fumes during loading and unloading operations.
Raked Head Frame with Fiberglass Panel
The head frame is sloped from the center to provide adequate drainage away from the building and the dock area. Translucent fiberglass panels permit natural light penetration through the top member into the loading dock area, and are secured to the frame's exterior by means of self-sealing screws. Polished aluminum angle trim finishes the front edge of both the head and side frames cleanly.
Wind Strap
An integrated wind strap secures the head curtain in position during high-wind conditions, preventing the curtain from pulling away from the trailer top and compromising the dock seal during material handling operations.
Reinforced 2-Ply Bottom Panel
A 2" to 8" wedge-shaped, covered foam bottom pad seals the lower corners of the enclosure and prevents air infiltration from below. A 3-ply reinforced bottom panel option is also available for high-traffic docks or applications with greater abrasion exposure.
Removable Curtain System
Head curtain and side curtains are easily removed by simply taking off the bolt and bolt covers, making replacing worn curtains easy and efficient. This design also allows seasonal removal for cross-ventilation during warm months, eliminating the need for additional dock ventilation equipment.
Cover Fabric Options
Dynalon is warranted against the effects of weathering for a period of five years. The term "weathering" is defined and limited to the effects of sunlight (ultraviolet radiation), water (atmospheric precipitation), cold, and heat. Dynaflex and additional fabric grades are also available to suit varied application requirements and performance levels.

Applications

The Series 2200 works well at any dock where weather protection, building safety, and full trailer access matter. Because the entire back of the truck is enclosed, heat and water leakage are kept to a minimum. Climate-controlled facilities benefit from the foam side pads and improved dock sealing, while busy operations value the foam frame's ability to take a hit without shutting down the dock. Dyna-Armor wear panels protect against damage from truck roof corners — one of the most abused spots on any dock shelter. Here's where the Series 2200 fits best:

  • Distribution & Fulfillment Centers
  • Food & Beverage Processing Facilities
  • Manufacturing & Industrial Plants
  • Cold Storage & Refrigerated Warehouses
  • Warehouses Serving Mixed Fleets

Selection Assistance

Choosing the right dock enclosure starts with understanding your door opening dimensions, the range of carrier heights you service, and how frequently trucks approach the dock off-center. Barron's team of service technicians has been installing dock shelters for over 43 years and can replace old shelters with new ones or install on openings that have not previously had dock shelters. It is recommended that the shelter frame project 14"–18" beyond the dock bumper. For example, at a flush dock with a bumper projection of 6", the standard shelter projection should be 20"–24" for a standard 12'0" wide shelter. The top of a soft sided shelter should be kept as close to 15'0" off grade as possible to accommodate the height range of incoming carriers.

Not sure which configuration fits your dock? Contact Barron Equipment's team for a no-obligation consultation. We'll review your door dimensions, vehicle fleet, bumper projection, and approach grade to recommend the right solution for your facility.

FAQs

What is the Fairborn Series 2200 and how is it different from a rigid dock shelter?

The Series 2200 uses foam-covered side pads instead of a rigid structural frame. When a truck backs in off-center, the foam compresses and springs back instead of sending damage to the building wall or the shelter itself. It's a good choice for docks where driver approach varies or where building protection is a concern.

What size door openings does the Series 2200 fit?

Shelter width adjusts in 6" increments — the recommended range is 12'–14'. Shelter height also adjusts in 6" increments — the recommended range is 11'–15'. Getting the right fit requires measuring door width, door height, dock height, bumper projection, and approach grade. Barron's team can help with that.

Can the curtains be removed without special tools?

Yes. Head and side curtains come off by simply removing the bolt and bolt cover. This makes replacing worn curtains quick and straightforward. You can also pull the curtains off in warmer months to improve dock ventilation.

What fabric options are available and is there a warranty?

The Series 2200 is available in Dynalon, Dynaflex, and other fabric grades. Dynalon is warranted against weathering for five years. This includes the effects of sunlight, rain, cold, and heat. All Fairborn products are also covered against defects in workmanship and materials for one year from the date of shipment, when properly sized, installed, and maintained.

How far should the shelter stick out past the dock bumper?

The shelter frame should project 14"–18" beyond the dock bumper. At a flush dock with a 6" bumper projection, the standard projection should be 20"–24" for a 12'0" wide shelter. The top of the shelter should be kept as close to 15'0" off grade as possible.

Does Barron install and repair dock shelters?

Yes. Barron's service team has been installing dock shelters for over 43 years. We install new shelters, replace old ones, repair all types of dock shelter equipment, and re-hang shelters as needed.
