LockUp

Lock-Up Truck Restraints

Overview

The Lock-Up™ mounts to the dock wall above ground level to stay clear of accumulated precipitation and debris. Watertight connectors and zinc plating provide exceptional corrosion resistance, making it a reliable long-term investment in facilities that deal with harsh conditions. As the trailer backs into position, the RIG contacts the spring-loaded structural steel housing, which rides down in its track and allows the RIG to move over the top of the housing. The dock attendant pushes the RESTRAIN button, which activates the vertical barrier to secure the trailer to the dock. An activation system ensures RIG/barrier engagement even when the electrical power source is lost. If a trailer's RIG is missing or damaged, the Lock-Up™ will communicate a fault condition — an audible alarm and flashing red light alert the operator that the trailer has not been properly secured.

Features & Benefits

The low-profile 9-inch carriage works with all standard trailers, and the engagement range extends from 9 to 31-inches above the ground — the widest range among comparable wall-mounted restraint models. The Lock-Up™ maintains contact with the Rear Impact Guard and adjusts automatically with trailer float motion to ensure proper engagement at all times during loading and unloading. The exclusive vertical barrier lifting mechanism utilizes a patented over-center device that maintains engagement even in the event of a power failure. The gear motor only draws electricity when engaging or disengaging the vertical barrier — it will not release during a power failure — resulting in more reliable operation and ultra-low energy costs. The roller slope extension eliminates gouging and marking on the dock approach compared to skid-style alternatives, and the slim profile carriage design reduces the risk of collision damage to the restraint or truck trailers.

Non-contact magnetic proximity sensors deliver robust, high-durability performance. An included RIG sensor notifies the dock attendant when a trailer is present and alerts if it has not been properly secured. The standard bypass/override is password-protected for authorized personnel only.A PLC-based control box with integrated maintenance diagnostics is standard, and the CB-00 control box enables interlocking with the dock leveler, door, and gate. The unit exceeds ANSI MH30.3 requirements, and includes a 5-year warranty. Optional configurations include an IntelliDock Combination control box, CB-40/41, open dock stanchion for control box, articulated slope extension, and projection brackets and reinforcing plates.

Applications

The Lock-Up™ is ideal for applications that demand a wall-mounted, vehicle-positioned restraint with the versatility to secure a variety of vehicles — particularly where mixed fleets, obstructed RIG configurations, or harsh operating conditions make other restraint styles impractical.

  • Intermodal and container operations — secures intermodal container chassis and RIG bar configurations with cover plates or obstructions that defeat hook-style restraints
  • High-volume distribution and fulfillment centers — adjusts automatically with trailer float motion to ensure proper engagement at all times without manual re-engagement between loads
  • Facilities serving mixed fleet traffic — designed to accommodate the widest variety of RIG configurations at the same dock without reconfiguration
  • Cold storage, food processing, and outdoor dock environments — elevated wall-mount installation keeps the unit clear of precipitation and debris, while watertight connectors and zinc plating provide added corrosion resistance
  • Facilities requiring dock interlock systems — the CB-00 control box enables interlocking of the dock leveler, door, and gate for full dock safety system integration

Selection Assistance

The Lock-Up™ is the right choice when your operation handles intermodal or container traffic with obstructed RIGs, requires the widest engagement range available, or needs a restraint that holds firm regardless of power reliability. The unit is backed by an Extended Two Year General Warranty on the roller track assembly, carriage assembly, RIG sensor assembly, and control box — plus an Extended Five Year Structural Warranty on the roller track, carriage weldment, motor cover, barrier assembly, and lower spring bar.

FAQs

What makes the NOVA Lock-Up different from hook-style restraints?

Unlike a rotating hook, the Lock-Up™ uses a vertical barrier that ensures engagement with intermodal containers and trailer RIG configurations with cover plates or obstructions — configurations that often defeat hook-style designs. It also adjusts automatically with trailer float motion to ensure proper engagement at all times during the loading and unloading process.

What happens if the power goes out while a trailer is secured?

The barrier lifting mechanism engages an over-center device that maintains the barrier in the engaged position in the event of power failure, shaking, or normal movements of a vertically oscillating trailer with a forklift entering and exiting. The trailer will not be released during an outage.

What is the engagement range of the NOVA Lock-Up?

The low-profile 9-inch carriage works with all standard trailers and the engagement range extends from 9 to 31-inches above the ground. This is the widest engagement range available among comparable wall-mounted models, including the Kelley Star 4 (11.5"–28"), Nordock ATL-900 (9"–30"), and Pentalift HFR32 (10.5"–28.5").

Will the roller slope extension damage my dock approach?

Unlike skid-style slope extensions, the roller slope extension effortlessly moves over the pavement without damaging the dock approach. It also reduces friction when positioning on concrete approaches and is even more effective on asphalt surfaces.

How does the Lock-Up alert the dock attendant when a trailer isn't secured?

If a trailer's RIG is missing or damaged, the Lock-Up™ communicates a fault condition — an audible alarm and flashing red light alert the operator that the trailer has not been properly secured. Additionally, the RIG sensor is standard and will notify the dock attendant when a trailer is present without opening the overhead door.

What are the electrical requirements for the NOVA Lock-Up?

Electrical components and wiring are UL Listed® or Recognized®. The Lock-Up™ requires a power source of 110/115 volt, single-phase with a 15 amp service circuit. The gear motor completes the full cycle of restraining and releasing in under three seconds — a fraction of a penny of electricity per vehicle, regardless of how long each is serviced at the dock.

Can the Lock-Up be integrated with a dock leveler or overhead door?

Yes. The CB-00 control box enables interlocking of the dock leveler, door, and gate — meaning neither can operate until the restraint is confirmed engaged. This is a critical safety protocol for high-traffic shipping and receiving operations.
