Foam is the foundation of every product. Fairborn developed an exclusive polyurethane foam that compresses and conforms to the irregularities of the vehicle body, then returns fully to its original shape after the truck pulls away. This recovery characteristic ensures consistent sealing performance across thousands of truck cycles. NOVA products use high-density polyurethane foam with similar performance characteristics.

Frames are built from select dimensional lumber — pressure treated and kiln dried before and after treating — for moisture resistance and structural stability. Formed steel frames are available on many models for applications demanding additional strength. Head frames on shelter products use structural galvanized steel tubular construction with welded joints for heavy-duty performance and snow load support.

Fabric is a critical differentiator. Fairborn created the first certified performance fabrics designed specifically for dock seal and shelter construction. Dynalon — their flagship material — carries extraordinary tear and abrasion resistance and is warranted against weathering for five years, including sunlight, rain, cold, and heat. Dynaflex and additional fabric grades are available across the product line.

Hardware on all products is protected with heavy-duty galvanized or zinc rust-resistant coatings. Chemical welds bond foam directly to the frame for maximum structural integrity. Air exhaust vents on each pad allow free air escape during compression while preventing moisture from entering. Installation & Service

Proper installation starts with accurate measurement. Before any seal or shelter is ordered, Barron’s team confirms door height and width, dock height, bumper projection, approach grade, and the range of vehicle heights that will be serviced at each door. These measurements determine the appropriate product type, size, projection, and compression range. All dock seals and shelters require adequate bumper protection — a minimum of 4″ projection — to protect both the seal and the building wall on every truck contact.

Regular inspection of dock seals and shelters helps identify wear before it leads to energy loss or product damage. Fabric tears, compressed foam that no longer recovers, loose mounting hardware, worn guide stripes, and damaged curtain assemblies are all common maintenance items that Barron’s team addresses quickly and professionally.
