Rigid Dock Shelter – 2000 Series

Overview

The Series 2000 is a rigid door shelter built on select dimensional lumber of the highest grade, pressure treated and kiln dried before and after treating — a standard of workmanship that supports product life expectancy far beyond many competitive models. The result is a frame that resists moisture, holds its projection under repeated vehicle contact, and performs consistently through years of daily loading cycles.

Translucent fiberglass panels built into the top and side members permit natural light penetration into the loading dock area, reducing the need for artificial lighting and improving dock worker visibility during loading and unloading. The 2"x6" head frame is sloped from the center to provide adequate drainage away from the building and the dock area, helping maintain a cleaner, safer dock environment through all weather conditions.

Features and Benefits

The Series 2000 is built on a heavy-duty treated KDAT wood frame — select dimensional lumber pressure treated and kiln dried before and after treating — with an optional tubular steel frame available for more demanding environments. Flexible 3-M Scotchply™ stays are incorporated into both the head and side curtains and through-bolted to the frame for a positive attachment point, enabling the curtains to firmly conform to the top and sides of the vehicle body. The leading edge of each side curtain includes a compressible neoprene cord sewn in place to seal against the vehicle body's irregularities, while fabric-covered foam bottom pads block air infiltration at the lower corners to complete the enclosure.

Translucent fiberglass panels secured to the frame's exterior allow natural light into the loading dock area, reducing the need for artificial lighting during material handling operations. Dyna-Armor overlapping wear panels at each end of the head curtain protect against repeated impact from protruding truck corners, and polished aluminum angle trim finishes the front edge of both frame members for a clean, professional appearance. Each unit also includes heavy-duty steel channel guards to prevent structural damage from misaligned vehicles, and high-visibility yellow guide stripes on the lower portion of each side curtain help drivers position accurately at the dock opening.

Applications

The Series 2000 is a proven solution across a broad range of commercial and industrial dock environments where durability, energy control, and reliable dock sealing are non-negotiable. It performs best in facilities that service consistent vehicle types on a daily basis — particularly where maintaining a climate-controlled environment at the dock opening is a cost and compliance priority.

  • Warehouses & distribution centers requiring high-cycle durability and reduced maintenance
  • Cold storage & refrigerated facilities where air infiltration at the dock directly impacts energy costs and product integrity
  • Food processing & pharmaceutical operations that require a sealed dock environment during loading and unloading
  • Facilities servicing trucks with irregular tail-end projections such as lift gates or ledges, where flexible curtain conformity is essential
  • Manufacturing plants that need full, unimpeded access to the trailer interior without risk of frame displacement
  • Multi-dock buildings with dock level, overhang, false header, ground level, cantilever, or setback wall configurations

FAQs

What is a rigid dock shelter and when should facility use one?

A rigid dock shelter uses a fixed wood or steel frame to maintain its shape and projection under repeated truck contact. It is best suited for facilities servicing a consistent range of vehicle sizes where durability, energy efficiency, and frame integrity are priorities over the impact absorption offered by flexible or foam-sided designs.

What types of trucks work best with the Series 2000?

The Series 2000 is well-suited for standard trailers and also accommodates trucks with irregular tail-end projections such as lift gates or ledges — provided the unit is correctly sized for the specific vehicles at your dock. The flexible curtains with Scotchply stays and neoprene edge cord conform to irregular vehicle body contours.

What installation types are available for the Series 2000?

The Series 2000 is available in dock level, overhang, false header, ground level, cantilever dock, and setback wall configurations, making it compatible with a wide variety of building types and dock wall designs.

How does the Series 2000 help reduce energy costs?

The Series 2000 creates a sealed enclosure around the trailer during loading and unloading operations. Foam bottom pads block air infiltration at the lower corners, flexible fabric curtains with neoprene edge cord conform tightly to the vehicle body, and the sloped head frame directs water away from the building. Together, these features minimize energy loss — particularly important for climate-controlled and refrigerated facilities.

What is the warranty on the Fairborn Series 2000?

The Series 2000 is backed by Fairborn's limited one-year warranty against defects in workmanship and materials, provided the unit has been properly sized, installed, and maintained. When specified with Dynalon cover fabric, the fabric carries an additional five-year warranty against weathering effects including UV radiation, precipitation, cold, and heat.
