Scrap Conveyors

Two Conveyor Families. One Goal.

While all scrap conveyors move manufacturing waste, they are designed for different chip sizes, duty levels, and installation constraints.

Titan Conveyors

models are designed for general metalworking, machining, stamping, die-casting, and forging applications. The product family includes 2.5-inch, 4-inch, and 6-inch pitch hinged-steel-belt conveyors with widths up to 72 inches and chain pull capacities up to 8,900 pounds on the Model 660. These systems are commonly used for larger scrap, heavier stampings, and demanding industrial environments.

NLECO SteelTrak Conveyors

<New London Engineering (NLECO)> SteelTrak conveyors are designed for chip handling, fine scrap removal, and machining applications where space is often limited. The lineup includes 1.5-inch and 2.5-inch pitch configurations, liquid-tight versions, tapered frames, and low-profile infeed designs. SteelTrak systems also incorporate TruTrak technology to help reduce belt-tracking issues and conveyor wear.

Scrap Conveyor Types

Hinged Steel Belt Conveyors

Hinged steel belt conveyors use interlocking steel plates connected by hinge pins to form a rugged conveying surface. These systems handle:

  • Metal chips
  • Turnings
  • Swarf
  • Stampings
  • Forgings
  • Hot, oily, or abrasive scrap

Unlike standard belt conveyors, the interlocking steel design prevents small chips from falling through the conveyor surface.

Magnetic Conveyors

Magnetic conveyors use permanent magnets beneath a stainless-steel deck to move ferrous chips, grinding fines, and small metal parts.

Because the material rides on the steel deck rather than a moving belt, magnetic conveyors are often selected for fine ferrous material that could jam or pass through conventional conveyor designs. The Model 700 Magnetic Conveyor is the magnetic solution represented in Barron’s lineup.

How to Choose the Right Scrap Conveyor

The analyzed product lineup ranges from 4-inch conveyor widths on the SteelTrak 715 to 72-inch widths on the Titan 660.

What Is a Liquid-Tight Conveyor?

Liquid-tight conveyors are designed for machining applications where chips are mixed with coolant or cutting fluid.

Certain SteelTrak models use sealed bottom-pan designs that help contain fluids during transport, reducing leakage and contamination around the machine. The report identifies liquid-tight variants within the 716, 723, 724, and 726 product families.

What Is TruTrak Technology?

TruTrak is a SteelTrak conveyor feature that uses flanged rollers built into the chain to eliminate side-to-side belt movement.

According to the analysis, TruTrak helps:

  • Reduce belt tracking problems
  • Prevent frame wear
  • Protect axles and sidewings
  • Minimize unplanned downtime

This technology is one of the key differentiators between SteelTrak systems and conventional hinged-steel-belt conveyors.

Common Applications

Scrap conveyors are commonly used in:

  • CNC machining centers
  • Machine-tool chip removal
  • Metal stamping operations
  • Die-casting facilities
  • Forging operations
  • Cold-heading processes
  • Fastener manufacturing
  • Grinding applications

The appropriate conveyor depends on whether the material is fine or bulky, wet or dry, ferrous or non-ferrous, and whether the conveyor must fit under or inside existing equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a scrap conveyor?

A scrap conveyor is an industrial conveyor system used to collect and transport metal chips, turnings, swarf, stampings, and manufacturing waste away from production equipment.

What is a hinged steel belt conveyor?

A hinged steel belt conveyor uses interlocking steel plates connected by hinge pins to move metal chips and scrap. It is designed for wet, dry, hot, oily, and abrasive scrap materials.

What is a SteelTrak conveyor?

A SteelTrak conveyor is a New London Engineering hinged-steel-belt conveyor that incorporates TruTrak technology to reduce belt-tracking issues and conveyor wear.

What is a magnetic conveyor used for?

Magnetic conveyors move fine ferrous chips, grinding fines, and small metal parts using permanent magnets beneath a stainless-steel deck.

What conveyor pitch should I choose?

1.5-inch pitch systems are typically used for very fine chips and small stampings. 2.5-inch pitch systems handle most machining chips and turnings. 4-inch and 6-inch pitch conveyors are designed for heavier scrap, castings, and forgings.

How do I request a quote?

Scrap conveyors are application-specific systems. Quote requests should include chip type, machine or process producing the scrap, wet or dry conditions, belt-width requirements, discharge height, and available installation space.

Scrap Conveyor Selection & Installation

Barron Equipment helps manufacturers, machine shops, stamping facilities, foundries, and processing operations evaluate scrap conveyors based on chip type, scrap volume, coolant exposure, available space, discharge requirements, and production goals.
